Tongues of Fire Poems

Ascension Rock

We keep the faith of our fathers still
Standing on this upward movement
of Biblical prophecies fulfilled
We tell the story of Atonement Day
1844
For Ascension Rock was just a delay
As Daniel saw the Son of man
brought before the Ancient of Days
The judgment began
The books were investigated
The prophecy was being fulfilled
Sweet like honey but bitter in the belly
The Day Dawn-ed
They prophesied again.

Bye-Bye Grief

Grief is like a punch in the stomach
With all your insides being snatched by the wind
It leaves you feeling like an empty shell
Like a hollowed rock for a tunnel
Grief is like a derailed train ride
It leaves you lost,
stranded by the wayside
Grief is like that
But the Word sustains...
The Word revives
I am the Resurrection and the Life
We who are alive
shall not prevent those who are asleep
For the dead in Christ shall rise
And this mortal must put on immortality
O death where is your sting?
O grave where is your victory?
Death will be swallowed up in victory
And grief --
Will soon be a pain
that has permanently died.

So let joy revive
For we shall soon see our loved ones again
For we shall not prevent them
who have fallen asleep in Christ
But we too will rise
To meet the Resurrection and the Life
On that Great Day we'll rise
Eternal life forever and ever and ever
And joy will be like
a tree that cannot die
Joy will be like
A high mountain of delight
Joy will never leave you
We will be filled
Eating fruit
from the Tree of Life
I can see us laughing on Gold Street
You hear dat grief
So tek dat!
And death? ...
Bye-bye!

Latter Rain Prayer

Oh Messiah
Lion of Judah
Mighty Conqueror
Fill this house we're sitting in
With a mighty rushing wind
As in one accord we cling

Let tongues like fire
Fall again like rain
As we proclaim
Ancient truth
Over land and sea
And tell the world of your sign and seal

Let prophecies of Daniel
And Revelation
Roll from the tongues of many
And fill the ears of any
Who will listen
As the seventh trumpet sounds.

Sabbath

A quick-flowing crystal-clear river
over gentle steeps
Running under lush green trees
by carpet greens
Located at the end of the week.

We meet You,
our Creator there
May our hearts pump
more love for You
and for each other
And for those
not here by the river
Until we reflect You
Our Maker.

The Ladder

I was on my way to hopes and dreams
And thought You were there with me
Was I on my way to nowhere?
On the wrong side of the road it seems.

On my way to heartache
and elusive, false affection
And thought You were coming with me
Blinded by my own naivety.

Struggling in a dawg eat dawg world
Crab in de barrel mentality
When You tapped me on the shoulder
and showed me my destiny

You made Your face to shine upon me
and smiled at me
And showed me Your side of the street
Bright, golden, and sun-shiny.

The side I was on was so dark, so gloomy
You showed me the real ladder of success
Angels ascending and descending
upon the Son of Man.

Falling from so high
being electrocuted by Satan
You guided my steps
to Your ladder of success.

You saved me from falling
So gracious unto me with this calling
And now I'm climbing Jacob's ladder
On my way to the Promised Land

With every rung getting higher and higher
I see Your hand
Guiding me to places I never dreamed
An adventurous ride to eternity.

(Bridge)
Took me a while to figure out this call
And I'm no Moses but can't help thinking of the Burning Bush Call
I'm no Paul but this brings to mind the Damascus Road Call
Not the Woman at the Well but everybody come see a God-Man
who revealed Himself to me
Maybe this is like Peter
The follow me call
Now here I am
Send me.

You saw me in a dawg eat dawg world
Your sheep lost among wolves
You rescued me
From the crabs in the barrel and their mentality

Now I'm on my way to Your plans for me
Now that I've seen both sides of the street
This hope You have for me
The thoughts You think of me.
Let
it
be.
