About Queen Majeeda
Queen Majeeda

About

Always affected, moved, and inspired by the Creator, current affairs, and art, Queen Majeeda’s writing reflects the times we’re living in. She acknowledges in her art form, a higher power that is in control amidst the chaos we see around us. She finds herself doing the same thing poets in Scripture did, writing about historical and current events, crying for justice, hoping for deliverance, and praising the Most High.

She is a published poet and recording artist, who was born and raised on the island of Jamaica. Majeeda moved to New York where she recorded several projects following the release of her debut album Conscious. She also performed at various poetry cafes while pursuing her BA and MA degrees there, and was active on the poetry scene on campus. She later moved to Florida where she now resides.

In addition to Conscious, Majeeda has recorded another album, Wedding Invitation; an EP, Our Glorious Past; and two singles Despised and Rejected, and Conversation at the Well. She also recorded Le Déserteur for entry in the York College Foreign Language Poetry Competition. Le Déserteur is a poem written by French singer and poet Boris Vian. Majeeda recited and won second place in the competition for her performance of Vian’s poem.

She has toured the United States, giving poetry recitals, workshops, and lectures on college campuses, schools, libraries, churches, and cafes, as well as various venues on her native island.

Her writings are included in several anthologies, including Love Letters to Our Daughters (Eden Works Publishing), Women, Poetry and Dub (Sister Vision Press), and Voices, a monthly literary magazine published by York College/CUNY. She has compiled an e-book of poems titled Talk of the Town.

Majeeda is listed in Who is Who in Jamaican Arts and Entertainment. She was nominated for a Jamaica Music Industry Award (JAMI) and her poem Oh Daddy emerged as the winner.
